THE ULTIMATE GUIDE CANAL DU MIDI
Andrea Hoffman & Hans Zaglitsch, Adlard Coles
The Canal du Midi is the second half of the Canal de Deux Mers, through which shallow-draught boats may potentially travel from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean. The first, the Canal de la Garonne, is a 19th century artefact linking Bordeaux to Toulouse: the much older Canal du Midi was conceived during the reign of Louis XIV, runs from Toulouse to Sète and is a UNESCO world heritage site. Andrea Hoffman’s text and Hans Zaglitsch’s photos provide an effective brief introduction to the gorgeous architecture, unpleasant history and rich cuisine of this waterway. However, it’s written for holiday makers using hire boats – the information a cruising yachtsman needs is not included.
