Public statements
Mr Durham expresses surprise at discovering that the RNLI publicly declares its opposition to (modern), slavery, despite having early donors who did have links to the trade in slaves, resulting in his further research, and finding contractual clauses to the effect of having a policy for suppliers to the RNLI in relation to slavery (YM, January 2021).
I can assist here: The Modern Slavery Act 2015, requires organisations registered in the UK, with a £36m-plus turnover, to have an annual statement about their activities in relation to modern slavery and human trafficking, so the RNLI has no option but to comply. I must confess I too had a moment of incredulity when I found my employer making such statements, but then realised it extended to their employing cleaning companies with staff on minimum wages – checking these suppliers for their own policy seemed more logical.
