The first new sailing yacht since Bavaria was rescued from administration is crucially important for the firm, as well as an interesting indication of industry expectations in the biggest part of the market. The company hopes to build 175 of these a year, both for private buyers and charter fleets, on top of the 500 boats it currently produces.
This is the first Bavaria with chines, and Cossutti Yacht Design has given the hull powerful looking aft sections. There’s impressive interior space for a boat with a hull length of just under 40ft, with a bright saloon that includes a navigation station against the forward bulkhead, and large and airy cabins. On the downside, some of the interior joinery has hard corners, which gives a clunky appearance compared to the slick woodwork of many other yachts of this size.
The cockpit of the boat at Düsseldorf was laid out so crewmembers can be involved in sailing, rather than simply being passengers at the forward end of the cockpit. Wide side decks impinge a little on space at the forward end of the cockpit, but there’s plenty of room aft, especially with the wide bathing platform folded down.
The pricing is very attractive, which will make it a compelling choice for many.
