Show season curtailed

Sailors wanting to see this season’s new launches and latest equipment will have to contend with reduced shows and private viewings. The big show of the autumn was due to be the Cannes Yachting Festival in mid-september, but that was cancelled on 21 August. On the same day it was announced that the October shows in Annapolis are off. The Grand Pavois La Rochelle event has also been cancelled.

Despite months of work by organisers Reed Exposition­s to adapt the Cannes show with strict safety and sanitary measures, the event was called off after the local prefect (Alpes-maritimes) refused to grant the dispensati­on allowing it to go ahead.

UK yachtsmen, meanwhile, have a choice of two shows in Southampto­n in mid-september. The organisers of the Southampto­n Boat Show have created a smaller Boats2020 show at Mayflower Park, running from 11-20 September, which so far looks to feature mostly motorboat exhibitors.

MDL’S Ocean Village Boat Show, which runs over the same dates, will have more yacht brands present. Over 80 models will be exhibited, including the UK debut of the Bavaria C42 and the Oceanis 40.1. New multihulls on show will include the
