1955:

As an encouragement to continue their studies at evening classes and in recognition of good examination results and attendances, nearly £ 400 was distributed in bonus awards to 160 apprentices of Newton Chambers and Co. in Sheffield. MD Sir Harold West said: “We are presenting these awards a week before the works’ annual holiday because we find that in a great number of cases the girls and boys are allowed by their parents to keep most of the money for their holidays.”
