Celebration of the dark arts
THE Stanley and Audrey Burton Gallery at Leeds University is hosting a fantastic new exhibition this month. Beardsley and the Book Illustrators, which runs at the gallery until February, explores the work of Aubrey Beardsley.
The artist, who was born in Brighton in 1872 and died aged just 25, is famed for his intricately made black and white illustrations which often picture dark scenes. The exhibition celebrates the life and often controversial work of the precocious genius who succumbed to tuberculosis.
