Wartime story wins praise
AN award-winning novel by a North Yorkshire author has been praised by Oxford University.
Making Shore, which won the 2011 People’s Book Prize for fiction, was described as a vividly illuminated tale of survival. Inspired by a true incident, it tells of hardships after a ship is torpedoed by a U-boat.
The book, by Sara Allerton, has also been shortlisted for the Mountbatten Award for best literary contribution at the Maritime Media awards.
