Polo finds it­self on top of the world

VOLK­SWA­GEN’S lat­est Polo has fol­lowed its Euro­pean Car of the Year Award, last De­cem­ber, with the ti­tle World Car of the Year (won last year by the Golf ).

The Polo beat the short­listed Mercedes-Benz E-Class and Toy­ota Prius, plus other con­tenders such as the Kia Soul, BMW X1 and Porsche Panam­era.

Volk­swa­gen’s Blue­mo­tion econ­omy sys­tem was also named Green Car of the Year ahead of the Prius and Honda In­sight.

Audi’s R8 (a win­ner in 2008 with a V8 en­gine) and now with a V10, took the “per­for­mance” cat­e­gory from the Fer­rari Cal­i­for­nia and Porsche GT3.

Chevro­let’s Ca­maro was judged De­sign of the Year, pip­ping the Soul, Prius and C3 Pi­casso.
