Phaeton revealed to the world

Yorkshire Post - Motoring - - NEWS -

Volkswagen is using the Beijing Motor Show for the launch of its latest Phaeton, illustrating the importance of the Chinese market to European business.

As we report on page one, VW’s Bentley marque was also big in Beijing. The 2010 Phaeton has a new “face” with bi-xenon driving lights and LED running lights, framing a grille which now has emphasis on the horizontal bars.

The wings and bonnet are re-profiled and LED is used for the fog lamps (whether they are more annoying than regular “fog” lamps to other users remains to be seen).

Two wheelbase options will be offered (120 mm differentiating the two) and a choice of two engines – a 3.0litre V6 TDI diesel developing 240 PS and a 6.0-litre W12 petrol engine producing 450 PS, with 4Motion all-wheeldrive.

This new Phaeton goes on sale in Britain this August with prices set to be announced nearer the time.
