Smart changes to save money

Yorkshire Post - Motoring - - NEWS -

On sale now, from £8,780, the latest Smart two-seater hatchback.

Practical changes include being able to open the car’s lower tailgate using just one of its two release levers rather than both as previously.

Visually, the front and rear aprons, side skirts and filler cap are now finished in body colour.

A new upper dashboard design is the most striking interior change with a full, fabric-covered, instrument panel and restyled dials.

The popular 71bhp “micro hybrid” petrol unit, fitted with softip transmission, now emits 97g/km CO2 – an improvement of 6g/km.

This puts the most popular petrol and diesel engines in the smart range below 100g/km CO2. That means no London congestion zone charges and no annual road tax.

Or: A 7bhp increase sees the fastest Smart with 102bhp for 0-62mph in 8.9 seconds. Its reduced CO2 to 119g/km is the highest of any Smart.
