Spitfires reach for the sky again
THERE is little on four wheels that can match the beauty and heart-thumping thrill of a Supermarine Spitfire.
Marking its 75th year, a dozen or more will fly over Goodwood’s 2011 (car) Revival meeting, which runs from September 16 to 18.
Goodwood’s aerodrome, RAF Westhampnett, was a Battle of Britain base. During the war, carpenters on the Goodwood Estate helped to make the Spitfire’s wooden propellers, using trees felled in the forests.
