Mazda sets sights on frugal power
MAZDA’S CX-5, here in spring, introduces the brand’s SKYACTIV technology, aimed to combine performance with class-leading economy from new petrol and diesel engines.
It is a Japanese equivalent of BMW’S Efficient Dynamics system. Its rivals include the Ford Kuga (soon to be replaced) and the Toyota RAV4. Key elements include high compression ratios of 14:1 that raise torque and economy by 15 per cent on the petrol engine and 20 per cent on the diesel.
