GTI turns heads but purple reigns for Peugeot
THIS month sees two new Peugeot 208s in the showrooms. The GTi will undoubtedly attract attention – the badging and heritage demand it.
Less eagerly awaited but no less fun – in a more sedate way – is the XY “luxury” version.
While not luxurious in the sense of leather seats, deep pile carpets and Parker up front in a peaked cap it is, nevertheless, a very comfortable place to be.
Purple is one of the six colours available and is clearly the one which stands out.
Regardless of the exterior colour chosen, it is repeated on the logos and wheel caps although sadly, not much in the interior where a purple dash would have made a real statement.
There is purple stitching, however, and, under the metal pedals, the mat edging is overstitched in the royal hue. The standard Alcantara upholstery can be changed to leather – for a price – but the leather covered (small) steering wheel, seven-inch touchscreen and Bluetooth are fitted as standard.
There are chrome highlights inside and out – most notably on the mirrors, fog lamps and window trims.
The 208 XY comes with a choice of engines.
Prices start at £16, 545.
