Ex­ten­sions mean ex­pan­sion for firm

Leeds-based ar­chi­tects prac­tice Stu­dio J is buck­ing the trend in the prop­erty down­turn, tak­ing on new staff. This com­pany is still in its first year of trad­ing and was founded dur­ing the re­ces­sion, and 75 per cent of its work­load is com­ing from do­mes­tic ex­ten­sions for young fam­i­lies.

Founder James But­ter­worth, says: “A typ­i­cal job at the mo­ment is for in­creased liv­ing space on the ground floor with a new bed­room or two above.

“Due to the dif­fi­cul­ties home own­ers are cur­rently fac­ing, many have found ex­tend­ing or ren­o­vat­ing to be the most eco­nomic so­lu­tion. “
