Empty homes fund win for campaigner
ONE of the key demands of property campaigner George Clarke has been realised with the creation of a low-interest loan scheme to help the owners of empty homes bring them back into use as affordable housing.
The Empty Homes Agency (EHA) has announced the formation of the National Empty Homes Loans Fund, to be run jointly by the EHA and as yet unnamed building society. The creation of the loan scheme was made possible by a grant from the Department of Communities and Local Government (DCLG) under its Empty Homes Community Grants Programme.
The loans fund was one of the demands of Channel 4’s Great British Property Scandal campaign led by Mr Clarke.
