RIGHTMOVE Overseas say property searches for Detroit have risen by over 200 per cent over the past year.

Increased property stock in Sicily also generated high search results, while popular European holiday destinations experienced a dip in searches.

Charles Purdy, managing director of Smart Currency Exchange, said: “It is not a surprise that there is a greater interest in US property as their economy seems to be on the mend.

“Admittedly, the recovery is far from robust but it is recovering at a faster pace than those economies to be found this side of the Atlantic. The US dollar has also seen some rapid movements. US$100,000 will cost you £3,000 less today than a month ago.”
