City still top destination for property buyers in UK
EDWARD Hartshorne of Blenkin and Co. reveals the latest on the property market in the York area:
Across the price spectrum, property values in York are facing readjustment following an unprecedented period of growth. Nevertheless, this northern city remains a top destination for buyers from across the UK and strong sales persist.
In early December Blenkin & Co sold both a Georgian town house close to Bishopthorpe Road and a period town house in Mount Terrace.
The latter was snapped up by a family prepared to take on the significant renovation works because "the maths worked”.
Parents at the private St Peter’s and Bootham schools seeking bolt holes and principal residences continue to shore up the city centre market.
In terms of market trends, we are regularly talking to extended family members who are joining forces in their search for properties that will work for multiple generations.
The city of York provides few workable or affordable options, so buyers are widening their search of field. The challenge has recently been met in Fangfoss, a village just outside York, were we’ve just sold houses within a boutique development to two generations within the same family.
Of the £40m worth of property Blenkin & Co is scheduled to launch early next year, a number meet this brief. A substantial barn conversion in Ampleforth lends itself to multi-generational living..
“Looking back at 2023, it becomes clear that properties in the most desirable villages outside York have barely been impacted by the downturn in the market.
“Downsizers are proving to be committed buyers and their sense of urgency is keeping the market in these areas buoyant.”
