Yorkshire’s property hotspots and a home with reservoir views

- PROPERTY EDITOR

THIS weekend we look at the issues that can arise when an unmarried couple buy a home together. There is concern because more unmarried couples are buying homes than ever before and there are implications.

Legal expert Elizabeth Jones recommends a cohabitation agreement to anyone who is planning to live with someone, otherwise there can be uncertainty over ownership of property, furniture and effects, which can be costly and stressful to resolve via the courts.

The story below reveals that the Bradford postcode area has the hottest property market in England, according to property portal OntheMarket.

While this area includes a number of sought-after hotspots, including Ilkley, it also has a host of much more affordable places that have transport links to Leeds.

The Doncaster, Barnsley and Sheffield areas also feature in the UK's hottest property market top 20, thanks again to affordability.

My own home is in one of the cheapest places to live in the country and it is a great place to be. My town is surrounded by beautiful countryside, has lots of independent shops, three theatres, a wealth of sporting facilities and a great community spirit.

My point in mentioning this is don’t despair if you can’t afford to buy in the top-end areas. Extend your search and don’t just rely on property portals. Go and see places for yourselves and get a feel for them.

We feature some truly beautiful homes this weekend, including Lowdales in our Move to section, right. It is set in countryside and is energy self-sufficient and while it feels remote it is close to a village. It is also minutes away from the coast. If I had the money I would buy it myself.

The Inside Story home is also a belter. Ultimately it is a love story featuring a beautiful Edwardian house that overlooks a reservoir and allows you to drink in incredible views. Homes like these don’t come along every day.
