Hale sees off Dolby after sprint finish
CYCLING: Holmfirth CC rider Glen Hale took victory in the Barnsley Road Club Road Race on a glorious day on the tops of Hade Edge in West Yorkshire yesterday.
Sixty riders set off to fight for this regional B category event, which has a reputation for showing off the developing talents coming up through the ranks.
The field, which was significantly built up of riders under the age of 30, got straight down to it, whittling the field down by half in the first few laps.
Michael Harris (HD Revolutions) struck out around half way through and the breakaway specialist kept out in front for around two laps before being swept up.
Usually, nature does the damage on this hilly circuit and a small group breaks away; but for the second time in May on this circuit the remaining riders kept together and fought it out in a bunch sprint with a group of nine going toe to toe.
With a number of strong riders targeting this event, it was in-form local rider Hale from Holmfirth taking the spoils from Thomas Potter (All Terrain) and Barnsley rider Shaun Dolby (Geared Up & CN Cycles RT).
In time trialling, Holme Valley Wheelers hosted a 25-mile event near Sinderby, North Yorkshire, on Saturday and it was AeroCoach veteran Andy Jackson who took victory by just three seconds with a time of 52.02.
THRE Datawolves rider Hayden Allen was second, the first category road rider completing in 52.05.
Tyneside Vagabonds’ Anna Turvey produced yet another great ride to win to take the women’s prize from Team Swift’s Kirsty Bramley.
