2007: Michael Vaughan, above, became the most successful Test captain in England’s history as his side beat the West Indies by 60 runs at Old Trafford. It was Vaughan’s 21st Test win as captain, beating Peter May’s record. He retired with 26 Test wins.
1952: Denis Compton hit his 100th first-class century and went on to make another 23 tons before retiring in 1964.
