2007: Michael Vaughan, above, be­came the most suc­cess­ful Test cap­tain in Eng­land’s his­tory as his side beat the West Indies by 60 runs at Old Traf­ford. It was Vaughan’s 21st Test win as cap­tain, beat­ing Peter May’s record. He re­tired with 26 Test wins.

1952: De­nis Comp­ton hit his 100th first-class cen­tury and went on to make an­other 23 tons be­fore re­tir­ing in 1964.
