Returning Evans to face lowly Ivashka
TENNIS: Dan Evans has been drawn against Ilya Ivashka in the first round of Wimbledon qualifying.
Evans was not given a wild card by the All England Club this week, despite some impressive results following his return from a drugs ban.
With his ranking so low following that 12-month suspension, it meant he had come through pre-qualifying to make it to the full qualifying round.
The 28-year-old won three matches over the course of 28 hours on Thursday and Friday, including a victory over fellow Brit and Wimbledon 2016 hero Marcus Willis.
He is paired with world 105 Ivashka on Monday, the first of three matches he must win if he is to make the main draw at Wimbledon.
Evans is one of eight Britons hoping to make it through to their home grand slam.
James Ward, who made it through to the third round in 2015, plays Argentinian Marco Trungelliti, while Alexander Ward takes on Darian King.
Andy Murray’s occasional hitting partner Aidan McHugh plays Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fukina while Lloyd Glasspool, boyfriend of Heather Watson, faces Sergio GutierrezErrol.
Anton Matusevich must beat Zdenek Kolar, Jack Draper takes on Mohammed Safwat and George Loffhagen is paired with Jurgen Zopp.
