Minstermen felled by rampant Avenue
NATIONAL LEAGUE NORTH: Bradford Park Avenue moved level on points with long-time leaders Chorley following a 4-1 win at 10-man York City.
Goals from Jake Beesley (2), Jamie Spencer and Ben McKenna inflicted a third defeat in eight days on a Minstermen team who never recovered from captain Joe Tait’s 25th-minute dismissal.
Tait floored Beesley with a flailing arm in the penalty box to receive his marching orders and the on-loan Salford striker compounded the home team’s misery by opening the scoring from the spot.
Beesley netted his ninth goal of the season two minutes after the interval before Spencer got in on the act shortly afterwards with a stunning 20-yard effort that rocketed into Adam Bartlett’s top-right corner following Hamza Bencherif’s headed clearance after a Nicky Wroe flag kick.
Sean Newton replied for the hosts with a well-placed freekick, but McKenna wrapped up the points in the 82nd minute
Elsewhere, Guiseley were unfortunate not to defeat Darlington after hitting the frame of the home goal four times. Kaine Felix and Paul Clayton both hit the crossbar and a post during the 0-0 draw.
