Shaymen forced to suffer away misery

Yorkshire Post - Sports Monday - - FOOTBALL - Ebbsfleet:

NATIONAL LEAGUE: FC Halifax Town suffered a miserable away day to forget as they lost 4-0 at Ebbsfleet.

Town were brought crashing back down to earth with a bang after the high of their FA Cup first round replay win over Morecambe on Tuesday with goals from Michael Cheek, Chris Bush and Danny Kedwell seeing Ebbsfleet ease to victory.

Cheek opened the scoring in the 24th minute despite ther being a hint of handball after he was found with a long throw-in.

But if Town had reason to feel aggrieved at Ebbsfleet’s first, there was nothing they could argue about for the hosts’ second goal, Bush producing a terrific 41st-minute free-kick from 20 yards that flashed into the top right corner.

Any hopes of a second-half fightback were extinguished when Kedwell scored from the spot in the 48th minute, Town’s misery being completed when Cheek nodded in from close range in the closing moments.
