Yorkshire Post - Sports Monday - - RUGBY UNION -

Good day: Matt Smith

A fine way for the experienced lock to celebrate his 100th league game for the club. Not many have reached that milestone - just seven before him - and fitting that the Barnsley-born forward did so in his native South Yorkshire. Caused Doncaster’s line-out all sorts of issues.

Bad day: Kurt Morath

The Tonga fly-half was back after missing the last two games injured but went off with a problem in the second half here. Doncaster need him fit and firing if they are to get out of this rut so they will be desperate to make sure it is not a serious issue.

Key moment

72nd minute: Chris Elder’s penalty gave Carnegie an eight-point advantage they were never likely to let slip.

Ref watch

Michael Hudson: Missed a couple of forward passes but generally handled game well.

Carnegie are up and running and have made some key signings. Doncaster still have tools to get out of trouble.

Next game

Coventry v Doncaster; Saturday, 3pm; Carnegie v Cornish Pirates, Sunday, 3pm.
