KATE Holliday’s Saltaire-based design studio Sunlight on Closed Lids specialises in art prints and greetings cards. Her bold handdrawn illustration combines with vintage inspired patterns to form bright, whimsical scenes.

“For as long as I can remember I have enjoyed designing and making stationery for friends and family,” says Kate, who studied art and textiles at school before graduating with a BA (hons) in Fine Art. “Throughout the course I was able to experiment with a variety of methods, my favourites being illustration, photography, screenprinting and textiles.

“But it wasn’t until two years after my degree that I realised I could combine all the things I loved to create a viable business of my own.

“Inspiration comes from landscapes, music, flowers, birds, especially owls, the smell and sight of books, the moment before you step on the snow, and sunlight on closed lids.”

Kate’s products are all produced in the UK and are on board manufactured in the Lake District.

So this year, to help you stick to your good intentions, try revolving your resolutions around your home instead of you – there’s much less pressure and its harder to be led astray.

It is very much a case of out with the old and in with the new. Give your skirting boards a quick lick of paint to give a room a lift, adding some colour and vibrancy without spending days redecorating.

Of course, accessorising your home with furnishings in chic colours and textures is a vital piece of the new-look puzzle. Barker and Stonehouse’s wooden sunflower clock will add a touch of elegance to any room.

Create a warming, amber glow with our Fly Pendant Light in orange, specially shaped in a transparent bubble and cut-off just below the hemisphere, to radiate light in a soothing glimmer.

We tend to focus on our main living areas when giving our home a makeover, but Barker and Stonehouse has the ideal solution for giving your bedroom a fresh, spring feel.

We love our cushion and throw in Flower Harmony print, a gorgeous mixture of oriental floral and gingham print, which will add a splash of colour and give an instant bright and airy glow.

So, now you have no excuse to not make your New Year’s resolution all about your home.
