Staithes Group work sells at second try

DAME Laura Knight’s evocative painting Packing Fish on the Quay at Staithes has found a buyer at the second time of asking. The Staithes Group artist’s 1899 oil, subject of a lead item in this column, failed to reach its reserve when it was offered at Christie’s, South Kensington, in March with an estimate of £15,000-£20,000 but sold for £13,750 when offered at the latest Victorian and British Impressionist Art sale.
