Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, ITV, Saturday, 7pm.

FILM OF THE WEEK:

If you thought Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 could have done with a little more magic and a little less camping and teenage angst, never fear – it turns out the brains behind the movie saga were simply saving up all the action for Part 2.

Not only does this fantasy adventure feature an array of memorable setpieces, it pulls off the even more impressive feat of bringing the boy wizard’s tale to a hugely satisfying conclusion.

When we catch up with Harry, Hermione and Ron (who is back in the fold after recovering from his extended sulk in the previous movie), they are still on the hunt for horcruxes, the objects in which the Voldemort has hidden parts of his soul to render himself immortal.

Unfortunately, the dark lord has worked out what they’re up to, and amasses his followers for one final showdown at Hogwarts school.

With many old favourites returning for one last time, it can feel like a veritable who’s who of British acting talent – it would probably be quicker to list who isn’t in it.

However, Ralph Fiennes, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson and Alan Rickman are all on particularly good form, alongside Daniel Radcliffe, who really rises to the challenge of the epic material. We’ve watched him grow up on screen, and like the film-makers, it seems he’s saved the best for last.
