Going vegan: Marks & Spencer has reviewed its wine range and is now claiming that 80 per cent is made to vegan standards. This means that absolutely no animal products are used in their production. Vegan wines have a V on the back label. Recommended wines include Classics Chianti, £8, and Classics Albariño, £10.

Shop closed: To keep staff and customers safe, Yorkshire Vintners has shut its shop in Ripon but is still happy to deliver free within North Yorkshire, and into West Yorkshire for orders over £50. You need to put a code into the website to receive free delivery, so ring them on 01765 601701 to get the code and while talking to them, pick up some fresh ideas on what to drink. Yorkshire Vintners has a superb range including the fragrant Gewürztraminer from Seifried in New Zealand (£13.75), cheeky half bottles of Guigal’s Côtes du Rhône 2016 and outstanding Chardonnays from Richard Kershaw who has abandoned his native Yorkshire to make superb, prize-winning wines in South Africa. Try his Chardonnay GPS Series Vermaaklikheid 2016 (£36) and serve it blind to a Burgundy lover. They will be amazed by its quality.

Mix it up: You can always rely on Rob Hoult in Huddersfield (01484 510700) to come up with a straightforward, simple way to buy wine. He has put together four cases, priced at £80,

£100, £130 and £180, all of which are stuffed with delicious wines. The £80 case contains wines such as Borsao Garnacha from Spain and Principato Pinot Grigio. For £100, there is a fine selection, including Sileni Estate Chardonnay from New Zealand and Monte Schiavo Sassaiolo from Italy. £130 takes you into wines from small producers such as Waterkloof, Vidal Estate and Leftfield, while the £180 case is a joyful collection from Esk Valley (New Zealand), Purcari (Moldova) and Miles Mossop (South Africa).
