Jobs to do
■ Sow spring onion seeds outdoors in rows under cloches.
■ Sow winter salads in a greenhouse or outdoors under cloches. Choose types that don’t require extra heat.
■ Sow hardy broad beans outdoors in rows for extra early harvests in spring.
■ Plant asparagus crowns.
■ Plant out spring cabbage plants.
■ Plant rhubarb crowns in well-prepared soil. Add plenty of organic matter because they are greedy.
■ Plant out strawberry plants and runners in freshly turned beds.
■ Plant raspberry plants and blackberries (pictured).
■ Plant blueberry plants. They prefer a slightly acidic soil, but do very well in patio containers with ericaceous compost if your garden soil is not acidic.
