Something special

-

Innovation in design and pride in the quality of materials and craftsmanship are key components in creating the beautiful furniture for which Royal Oak enjoys an enviable reputation.

The way these factors combine to produce something special is typified in the Canterbury Hooped dining table, a stunning piece from the Grassingtonbased company’s range of traditionally crafted furniture.

“It’s a beautiful handcrafted dining table made from English oak,” says Royal Oak’s Joanne Kent. “Each board in the table top is individually hand-selected for its character and graining, while the hooped legs add a real elegance to the table and the fumed oak colour adds a sense of warmth.”

A current best seller is the spindle bed, available in sizes from single up to super king and which looks good in either natural wood or painted finishes.

Made using only the best quality timber, originating from environmentally managed woodlands where sustainability is a prime concern, each piece of furniture made at Royal Oak, be it a bespoke or ready-made piece, starts the same way.

English timber, whenever possible, arrives at the workshop with the bark still intact, at which point it is matched for grain and colour before the team of craftsmen set to work on transforming it into something unique.

These highly-trained and skilled artisans use traditional cabinet-making techniques to create pieces of quality furniture which stand the test of time.

The breadth and quality of Royal

Oak’s range can be seen in its 2,000sq ft showroom on Moor Lane just outside Grassington in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales. It forms part of a group of renovated farm buildings, which also incorporate the design office and workshop.

Oak-panelled walls and, in season, a welcoming log fire greet you as you enter the showroom, before a hand-made oak staircase leads you to several beautiful room sets showcasing the work of some of the country’s leading cabinet makers.

A short distance away from the showroom, on Wood Lane ( just around the corner from Grassington’s village square), Royal Oak’s shop is stocked with smaller items from the workshop alongside a collection of beautiful handmade gifts by many leading designers.

“As we get closer to Christmas, lots of things which will make ideal gifts can be found in our village shop,” says Joanne.

“These include handmade mirrors, beautiful lamps, candle holders, handmade chopping boards, cheese domes and trays, all made in our workshops, as well as a wide selection of ceramics, jewellery and textiles by carefully selected, very talented designer makers from around the UK.”
