Plant of the week
Senecio candicans: This is aptly called ‘angel wings’ and is a great plant for both indoors or out. Also known as the sea cabbage, it’s a native of India but it is quite happy here, as long as it has a well-drained soil, a reasonable amount of water and plenty of sun, although it will tolerate some shade. Feed it in spring and grow it as a border plant or indoors in a container. It is hardy(ish) particularly in milder areas. If in doubt, grow it in a container, take it indoors in late autumn – and keep the soil almost dry.
