Dear Style Clinic
I have decided that 2022 will be the year I develop a proper skincare routine and take better care of myself and my skin. Do you have any suggestions as to how I might start this?
We are all becoming skincare experts, according to a recent report by John Lewis which found that lockdown saw a rise in searches for retinol, vitamin C and hyaluronic acid, while sales of facial cleansers, moisturisers and exfoliators almost doubled.
I have always been a believer in regular exfoliation for the face, twice a week, if possible, although I confess I have not been quite so regimented over the past 18 months (it’s hard to find the motivation when you think you are not going to see anyone).
Anyway, exfoliation is the best way to start. Choose something simple but effective, like the Bliss one here, which is a gentle jelly-like exfoliator peel made with soft plantbased fibres that act like tiny lint rollers to capture and roll away dry, flaky skin and dirt, so no need to scrub.
Another good one to try is the Cha Vohtz Age Defy+ Soft Buff Skin Exfoliator, which uses pineapple, bamboo and bentonite clay to lift away hardened skin cells and unblock pores to refine and encourage the absorption of moisturisers, serums and other skin products you decide to use after.
Ole Henriksen has just launched Strength Trainer Peptide Boost Moisturiser which boosts the skin’s moisture barrier over eight weeks so that it stays hydrated all day, helping prevent that awful feeling of tightness.
