Snowdrop: Birth flowers have become something of a trend (December’s are holly and narcissus) so here is one for January – the snowdrop (it is supposed to represent love and distinction). This instantlyrecognisable early spring flower loves shady spots but it’s also quite capable of growing and thriving just about anywhere as long as the soil is fertile and freedraining. Many gardeners also grow heavier-scented varieties in pots.
