This characteristically twisting tale from crime supremo Harlan Coben takes you on a rollercoaster ride from start to finish.
Secrets and lies are at the centre of the narrative focussing on four people – middle class mother of three Megan Pierce (Cush Jumbo), burnedout photographer Ray Levine (Richard
Armitage), bar manager Lorraine Griggs (Sarah Parrish) and troubled detective Michael Broome (James Nesbit) haunted by a cold case from 17 years ago when a man disappeared and was never found.
When another man goes missing on the same date, Broome begins to see connections everywhere and he and his partner DC Erin Cartwright (who also happens to be his ex-wife) begin to investigate. Meanwhile Megan is approached by her erstwhile friend Lorraine who she knew in a past life – one she has kept secret from her partner
Dave (Daniel Francis) who she is about to marry after 16 years together. And Levine is searching for the long-lost love of his life who walked out on him many years previously without explanation. The script skilfully juggles the four narratives with a nice line in dark humour – it strays into Killing Eve territory at one point with a pair of musical theatre-style assassins – while maintaining the suspense. The way in which the plot strands are ultimately all woven together may be a little too neat for some tastes, but it’s certainly a thrilling, intriguing journey to get there.
