Dear Style Clinic

I am keen to support local and small businesses by buying all my gifts from them this year, starting with Valentine’s Day. Do you have any suggestions?

We all should help our local businesses get back on their feet by buying what they make and sell. We have so much talent and expertise in Yorkshire, especially in the fields of fashion and jewellery, and there does seem to be a blooming of entrepreneurs beginning their own beauty, wellbeing and gift brands.

Sheffield jewellery designer Jessica Flinn creates wonderful forever pieces using unusual diamonds and gemstones to capture a moment in time, perhaps an engagement, wedding, birth, an achievement or simply as a romantic gift. You can make an appointment via the website to discuss bespoke pieces.

For accessories and knitwear, check out Glencroft, which is based in the Yorkshire Dales. This baker boy cap is both practical and pretty darned cute.

Based in Leeds, Beauty in the Wild champions eco-conscious, natural products from beauty and wellbeing businesses, including Chapter Organics candles and Natalie Bond bath salts. For men, try the Malako Fully Charged Duo of All Over Wash and a Body Lotion, made with lavender, rosemary and Thai plai oil, which has muscle-relieving and anti-inflammatory properties.

More ideas on the next pages, and more coming in next week’s Style Clinic.
