Bright ideas
I always encourage people to spend time discovering and then expressing their individual style at home.
This often means collecting and curating homeware that feels unique to an individual. Having said this, I believe there are key furnishing pieces that will look good in any interior setting and will enhance any home.
I would call these investment pieces, but not because they cost a fortune – in fact most can be bought on a budget. Like any good investment, though, they will be with you for years to come. Here are some must-haves for the home.
■ Textured bedding. A seersucker or waffle duvet cover will look fresh in any setting and has the benefit of needing little preening.
■ Plain, floor length curtains. A simple linen, cotton or velvet curtain hanging straight at either side of your window is all that is needed to make a space feel dressed, and heighten a room. If your windows can take ready-made sizes, even better, as a plain pencil pleat can be as smart as any bespoke pair
■ An open shelving unit. Our homes should tell our story so a piece of furniture designed to house our objects, books and treasured pieces is a must. It need not be a heavy piece – in fact, the simpler the better.
