Villanelle switches to the good life

TV PICK OF THE WEEK

BBC1, TONIGHT, 9.15PM

Killing Eve is back for its fourth and final series which launched on iPlayer on Monday but starts on BBC One tonight.

The acclaimed British spy thriller, based on the Villanelle novel series by

Luke Jennings, features a new female head writer for each season.

Killing Eve season 4 is written by Sex Education’s Laura Neal. Previous seasons have been penned by the likes of Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Oscar-winner Emerald Fennell.

In this the final eight-episode series, Eve (Sandra Oh) is on a revenge mission against The Twelve.

She has a lead – Helene (Camille Cottin) – and needs to track her down via one of her assassins.

Villanelle (Jodie Comer) wants to change and be good, so she endears herself to a church community. Carolyn (Fiona Shaw), relegated to an embassy role by MI6, is focused on getting back in the game.

“She wants to be good in some way, whatever that means,” says Comer. “Whether she’s capable of that is another question. Who she’s doing it for is another question. She’s one of those people who is very good at a lot of things. She does what she wants, and what she sets her mind to.”

In this hilarious, if sometimes slightly cruel, series, comedians Alison Spittle, Fern Brady and guest cohosts share their funniest most embarrassing stories. Recent episodes include Jayde Adam talking about strange things that have happened at music festivals and bad toilet stories with Rachel Parris, inset. There is a fair amount of schadenfreude on display here, but it is mostly very amusing.
