Kelvin’s Big Farming Adventure
AVAILABLE ON BBC IPLAYER REVIEW BY YVETTE HUDDLESTON
Following in the wellington-booted footsteps of Jeremy Clarkson, who we saw last year trying his hand at farming on a Cotswolds smallholding in the Amazon Prime series Clarkson’s Farm, here is another celebrity having a go.
Former Emmerdale actor and 2019 Strictly Come Dancing winner Kelvin
Fletcher and his family leave their Oldham home and head out to the Derbyshire countryside to try country living. Both Fletcher and his wife Liz are “townies” through and through but they are also willing to get stuck in to make their dream of a better work-life balance come true, in beautiful surroundings where their young children can run free.
Enthusiasm and determination go a long way to helping them settle into their new life, but it is not always easy. They have a lot to learn and sometimes they make mistakes. There is scene in which
they feel proud that they have managed to get their rare-breed sheep sheared in time to sell the wool to a dealer, only to be told by their sheep farmer neighbour Gilly that they should probably have cleaned some of the muckier bits off the sheep first. Also, they had just lost their chance at showing the sheep by having sheared off their distinctive topknots.
What makes this such engaging viewing is the good humour with which Kelvin and Liz face any setbacks and challenges. They are such likeable people, you are rooting for them all the way.
