Jobs to do

-

■ Prune bush and shrub roses.

■ If the weather allows, plant sweet peas outdoors or move young plants outdoors, but protect them under glass.

Pinch out the growing tips to encourage side-shoots, and, hence, more flowers.

■ Re-seed damaged or bare spots in lawns; if necessary, use turf. And, again, if the weather allows, start mowing – and always trim the lawn’s edges.

■ Finish planting bare-rooted trees and shrubs – that includes fruit trees and bushes.

■ Lift and split polyanthus (pictured) after plants have finished flowering.

■ Feed blueberry plants with ericaceous plant fertiliser. ■ Mulch fruit trees with wellrotted manure or garden compost. Take care not to mound mulch up around tree trunks.
