Shakespeare’s vision of the Battle of Towton (Henry VI, Part 3, Act 2, Scene 5) became a set piece about the terror of civil war. The battle was the bloodiest one-day battle in England’s history. Bolton Castle in North Yorkshire holds annual events to mark the 1461 battle.
