I hope to head off to Mallorca soon for my first sunny break for more than two years. How can I update my holiday look quickly, adding a much-needed dash of glamour? How I envy you your chance to escape into the sun. It’s been too long – so long, in fact, that I have forgotten where on earth I have packed away all my summer holiday clothes and accessories. I usually have one drawer set aside for them, so that I can quickly pack swimwear, sandals, sarongs, beach hats, sunglasses, plus staple linen separates and dresses. But last year, I cleared the drawer to make room for decorating gear, and I think I put them in a box, which could be anywhere now.
Still, it is an excuse to invest in some new pieces. I recently attended the Marks & Spencer SS22 preview, and came away longing for a classy little break (somewhere near Nice always does it for me). There is so much brilliant swimwear arriving in store this month, and I have my eye on this black bikini, which has wide straps to the top for support and full-brief bottoms, for a retro-style look. Just add a sarong or beach pants, a wide floppy hat and sunglasses, and that is easy glamour personified. I also fell in love with this tiered maxi dress in fiesta-ready orange, raspberry and green.
It’s such an easy throw-on-and-go dress to wear from beach to bar to dinner, switching flat sandals for wedges or strappy heels.
Look also at John Lewis & Partners, which has a lovely new collection of printed swimsuits, including great gingham styles, plus a selection of shorter floaty kaftans and sarongs perfect for adding a touch of SS22 on-trend holiday glamour. Have a lot of sun, and don’t forget your suncream.
