Dear Style Clinic

We have a garden party coming up for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and I would love suggestions as to what to wear, without breaking the bank.

For those in search of an excuse to dress up (and who isn’t?), the Platinum Jubilee offers just the best opportunity, with garden and street parties planned across the land – plus special themed events at our pubs and bars. So there is no excuse for a darned good knees-up over the fourday bank holiday from June 2 to 5.

What to wear? For a garden or tea party, the traditionally minded amongst us are always going to want a summery tea dress with a patriotic and preferably vintage feel, and fortunately, these are not too hard to find.

George at Asda has come up trumps with this fabulous red, white and blue tiny flower printed midi dress with cute frill sleeves and, at £14, it’s a bargain. Add wedge or platform sandals for a retro feel.

There are oodles of Jubilee-themed T-shirts in the shops for all family members, just as you might expect. For those who don’t simply want to emblazon themselves in the Union flag, look for designs with crowns and corgis, for a touch of queenly fun. This one from M&Co takes a classy approach to patriotism, and would look great simply with jeans or crops, or perhaps peeping out beneath a zipped jumpsuit (we have no idea what the weather will bring).

Finally, if it’s heirloom collectable wear you are looking for, check out Cath Kidston’s lovely Jubilee collection of clothing, homewares and accessories. This tote bag has got to be the sweetest way to carry all your essentials in style as you celebrate.

FIT FOR A QUEEN: From top, Jubilee tote bag, £45, at Cath Kidston; Jubilee-themed print midi dress, from £14, at George at Asda; Crown print tee, £19.99, at M&Co.
