MY FIRST CAR
Jon Hammond
Broadcaster Jon Hammond says his first car was a Mini Clubman which he used to take him to venues where he worked as a DJ.
“I learned in a Morris Minor which was my mum’s car,” he said. “I even remember the registration number was 55 UPL.
“But my first car was a Mini Clubman. It meant freedom and it was very important. I used to put all my DJ gear in it and off I’d go.
“I have had a lot of cars over the years including some nice two-seaters but the Mini sticks in the memory.”
Jon, now an executive coach who advises organisations on communication strategy and supports leaders to deliver really impactful messages, does a lot of travelling through his job.
After his early days as a DJ it was then a natural progression to move into broadcasting, initially, pioneering in commercial music radio and then for 16 years with BBC radio and television.
During this time, Jon hosted a variety of programmes from hard news to light entertainment and interviewed a vast range of guests from prime ministers to corporate heads and international celebrities to sporting stars.
He now drives a Suzuki Vitara from his home in Holmfirth to venues across the country but over the years he has had some exciting sports cars.
He recalls a Mazda MX-5 and a Porsche Boxster with relish plus a sporty Mercedes-Benz.
He has a fondness for Lexus cars and may return to them. His current car is a hybrid and is also considering moving to full electric.
He is a Deputy Lieutenant for West Yorkshire, Freeman of the UK Guild of Entrepreneurs, vice-president of Northern Ballet Theatre, a governor of York St John University, and uses his compering and auctioneering skills to raise funds for several charities.
”We would 100% recommend the use of CorkSol. It has totally transformed our house, which had old cracked render. Choosing CorkSol meant a quick and easy application, with the added bonus of the thermal insulation. We are really happy with the results.” – Laura, Homeowner
