Victoria Theatre, Halifax, February 3. Tickets on sale now. victoriatheatre.co.uk

Following his recent, sold-out 140-date tour, popular comedian Chris McCausland will be back on the road in the new year with his latest show Yonks!

He’s been called an ‘overnight success’, even though, as he points out, he’s been doing this for yonks.

He has been performing stand-up now for two decades and is a regular face on British television. He is an established favourite on such flagship comedy shows as Have I Got News for You, Would I Lie to You?, QI, The Last Leg, and

8 out of 10 Cats Does Countdown. He has appeared on Live at the Apollo three times, taking on the hosting duties in 2021, a year that also saw him make his highly acclaimed debut appearance on The Royal Variety Performance at The Royal Albert Hall.

He has also appeared on entertainment favourites such as Blankety Blank and The Jonathan Ross Show, along with celebrity editions of The Chase, Pointless, and Mastermind. This year he had his own travel series on Channel 4,

Wonders of the World I Can’t See and has also hosted his own BBC Radio 4 show You Heard it Here First.

He says the themes and content of his new show are quite different from the previous one, Peaky Blinder. “The last show was pretty personal. There was a lot about my experiences of being blind, being a dad, being a husband, and doing all of that in the dark,” he says.

“This show has none of that really, this show is really quite daft. I’ve gone old school. It’s about loads of funny stuff, everything from my hatred of Shakespeare to my love of Schwarzenegger, from Jesus to doughnuts, and AI to turnips.”

Having worked as a web designer for many years, McCausland tried stand-up comedy as “a bucket list dare to myself” after losing his sight.

“I couldn't really work as a web designer any more, I ended up working in a call centre and I was completely dissatisfied with my job and was looking for something else,” he says.

“Stand-up was always in my head as this amazing thing that some people could do, but not something you could ever achieve for yourself. I tried stand-up, it became a hobby, and then a job, and here we are now over 20 years later and stand-up comedy is all I really know now.”
