New paid internship at Leeds Playhouse:
Leeds Playhouse is partnering with Thomas Pocklington Trust (TPT) and RNIB on their Get Set Progress internship programme, creating new employment opportunities for blind and partially sighted people. It is offering a nine-month, fulltime, paid theatre internship, developing an early career theatre artist’s skill through a wide-ranging programme of on-stage and off-stage projects, including working on the Playhouse’s production of Macbeth. Applicants must be over 18, rooted in Yorkshire and have lived experience of sight loss. Deadline for applications is 5pm on December 11. Details leedsplayhouse.org.uk
Northern Writers’ Awards:
The
Northern Writers’ Awards will celebrate their 25th anniversary year next year, with many of the award categories now open for entry until February 12 2024. Founded and produced by New Writing North, the Northern Writers’ Awards are the largest and longestrunning writer development programme of their kind in England. Previous winners include Katie Hale, Kit Fan, Benjamin Myers, Okechukwu Nzelu, Andrew McMillan, Helen Mort, Sharma Walfall and Hannah Hodgson. The Children’s Art School funding success:
Artists are being funded for two years to continue bringing free creative sessions for children in Huddersfield. MakerWorld, run by The Children’s Art School, has been run with small grants and funding boosts from commissions but now a substantial sum has been awarded from the National Lottery Community Fund. The grant of £228,524.00 will ensure sessions can be held at the Piazza in Huddersfield, until Easter 2026. Sessions are held each Saturday 10am-3pm plus Little Makers for children 2-5 years term-time each Friday 10am-12noon at MakerWorld, Piazza Shopping Centre, Huddersfield.
