- Cher Meets Rylan

BBC2, 9pm

She was born Cherilyn Sarkisian in California in 1946, but the world knows her simply as Cher. Not that there’s anything simple about Cher herself. For almost 60 years, she’s been a superstar, first alongside her then husband Sonny Bono, but mostly as a solo artist, recording such chart-topping songs as I Got You Babe, Gypsys, Tramps & Thieves, If I Could Turn Back Time and Believe, to name but a few. She’s also an accomplished actress, winning an Oscar for her performance in Moonstruck. Now Cher is the latest star to have BBC Two’s Saturday night schedule dedicated to them. It begins with an interview in which Rylan quizzes her all about her life and career. That’s followed by archive footage in Cher at the BBC.

Doctor Who BBC1, 6.30pm

Has Russell T Davies saved the best episode until last? The final instalment in his three 60th anniversary specials is the one that’s received the most attention, due in part to the appearance of guest star Neil Patrick Harris as the Toymaker, a classic character last played by Michael Gough way back in 1966. His foe then was William Hartnell’s first incarnation of the Doctor, during a period before the term Time Lord had even been coined. Now he’s about to confront David Tennant’s version of the character, who’s once again joined by Catherine Tate as Donna Noble. But how will it all pan out? Well, the Beeb is keeping quiet, but what we do know is that Tennant is set to regenerate again, to be replaced by Ncuti Gatwa, who’ll make his full debut in a festive edition.
