The Whitby Handmade Bed Coimpany is an independent business with a pedigree stretching back more than 30 years, during which time it has established a well-earned reputation for the quality of its products.
Its exceptional range of beds and ma7resses is recognised throughout Yorkshire – and, indeed, beyond – for comfort and durability, guaranteeing many years of sound nights’ sleep.
Whitby Handmade Beds are sold through the showrooms of parent company Beevers, which has its principal retail outlet at Stakesby Vale, a short distance from Whitby town centre, along with others in Scarborough and Bridlington.
This arrangement, whereby Beevers have an ‘in-house’ production capability, means customers are able to choose from a wide range of options for their bed, which can then be made in the Whitby Handmade Bed Company factory to their precise size.
Located on the outskirts of Whitby, the factory employs a team of skilled and experienced craftspeople, each of them with their own specialist role.
The time-served joiners use seasoned timber to craft strong frames with a solid timber top and, where included, heavy-duty under-bed drawers.
The bespoke nature of the process also means beds can be built to any size and shape – even circular beds have been supplied – and the finishes can be cordinated with the headboards and bedroom furniture.
In the adjoining ma7ress production area, multiple layers of the very best materials, including lambswool, horsehair and cashmere, are combined in a co7on casing for a ma7ress which will aid a sound night’s sleep in all conditions.
As with bed construction, every aspect of making a ma7ress, from stuffing to sewing to tufting, is done by hand.
All materials used in the factory come from sustainable sources, this being one of the factors – along with cleanliness and fire resistance of ma7resses – which helped the Whitby Handmade Bed Company earn the highest possible Grade A rating when it was visited by assessors from the National Bed Federation (NBF) in 2022.
Membership of the NBF is a signal to customers that a manufacturer is commi7ed to the very highest standards – and the Grade A rating demonstrates that these are being achieved throughout every aspect of the production process.
