The empowering pop musical Fantastically Great Women Who Changed the World, based on the popular children’s book by author Kate Pankhurst, a distant descendant of women’s rights campaigner Emmeline Pankhurst, will be coming to Leeds Grand Theatre next month.
This critically acclaimed, inspirational show is bringing back its awe-inspiring characters, catchy pop soundtrack and TikTok-favourite choreography. Adapted by playwright Chris Bush (Standing at the Sky’s Edge, Faustus, Pericles, The Band Plays On), Fantastically Great Women Who Changed the World comes from one of the producers of worldwide sensation SIX and has delighted and inspired audiences across the UK, snowballing to become a hit favourite with a nationwide following.
Remarkable – and often forgotten – women from history are lifted from the pages of Kate Pankhurst’s beloved book and brought gloriously to life on stage – they include civil rights activist Rosa Parks, pioneer aviator Amelia Earhart, scientist Marie Curie, nurse Mary Seacole, Mexican artist Frida Kahlo, novelist Jane Austen and Pankhurst’s own suffragette relative Emmeline.
The cast includes Elena Breschi; Jennifer Caldwell; Georgia Grant-Anderson; Chlöe Hart; and Leah Vassell. Millie Kiss; Summer Priest and Rachel Seirian round out the cast.
The creative team behind this uplifting stage show consists of renowned dramatist Chris Bush with music by hit songwriter Miranda Cooper, and live arrangements by Jen Green. The director is Amy Hodge, designer Joanna Scotcher, choreographer Dannielle ‘Rhimes’ Lecointe, lighting designer Zoe Spurr and sound designer Carolyn Downing.
When inquisitive heroine Jade breaks away from her school trip to the local museum to peek at the Gallery of Greatness, she meets iconic women from the past, whose actions and lives changed the world as we know it, including explorers, scientists, artists and secret agents.
This enthralling, heart-warming musical is full of incredible characters, inspirational moments and a soundtrack that packs a pop-star punch.
