Tickets for both shows are on sale now via ticketmaster.co.uk

Popular stand-up comedian Bill Bailey has announced two big outdoor shows in Halifax and Scarborough this summer. The master comic, musical maestro and Strictly Come Dancing champion headlines at the Piece Hall in Halifax in July 31 and he then heads up the Yorkshire coast to play at Scarborough’s Open Air Theatre on August 2.

Bailey, a comedian, actor, musician, broadcaster and author known for cult sitcom

Black Books, as team captain on Never Mind the Buzzcocks, his appearances on QI and his many critically acclaimed UK and international stand-up tours. He was crowned Strictly Come Dancing champion 2020.

His other notable TV work includes the twopart series Bill Bailey’s Jungle Hero for BBC Two about the Victorian naturalist Alfred Russell Wallace, and a brilliant deconstruction of the way orchestras work in Bill Bailey’s Remarkable Guide to the Orchestra, both garnering much acclaim and awards.

Bailey’s comedy is a fusion of the surreal and the intelligent, blending stories, poetry and deft wordplay set against an impressive array of weird and wonderful instruments.

Music is the defining feature of his live shows, where his expertise allows playful interpretations of classic styles such as Tom Waits singing Old Macdonald or Kraftwerk singing the Hokey Cokey… The Sunday Times described him as “Comedy’s Mozart”. He is a veteran of UK festivals and his current arenafilling Thoughtifier tour is sold out across the UK and Europe.

“We’re always exploring how to increase our offer here at The Piece Hall and make sure there is truly something for everyone in our events programme,” says Nicky ChanceThompson, CEO of The Piece Hall Trust. “This is the first time we’ll get to experience comedy on this scale and from such a globally recognised talent in the courtyard. Laughter is such a tonic and I can’t wait to welcome Bill Bailey in the summer.”

Julian Murray, venue programmer at Scarborough OAT, adds: “Bill Bailey is a national treasure, a true one-off and someone who packs arenas across the country.”

She added: “This is going to be a truly historic and special night.”
