MY FIRST CAR
Explorer and entrepreneur Chris Brown from Harrogate says his first car meant he no longer had to use the “unreliable dirty buses” of Edinburgh where was studying.
He was in the Scottish capital to take his Masters when he bought the Fiat 128.
It was the start of a love affair with motoring. Asked if he enjoys driving, he said: “Yes, a lot.
“I race now race cars in whatever spare time I get in between exploring. I race in the GT4 series and the Fun Cup.”
Chris, 62, who owns a technology company, hit the news recently when he successfully completed his sailing expedition to Point Nemo – the most remote place on Earth.
To celebrate the achievement, he and his son Mika, 30, donned wetsuits and plunged into the Pacific where they hoisted bunting that spelled N.E.M.O in maritime flags.
Finding Nemo means the father-of-two has just two of earth’s “Poles of Inaccessibility” left to visit, the Northern and the Eurasian.
He said: “I think my next trip will be a little less arduous, maybe somewhere that the most difficult task facing me will be choosing which beer to have at the pool bar.”
But he still adores cars. He says the best he has had was an Aston Martin Vanquish V12 in British racing green.
He said: “One day I would really like to have an all electric hyper car called the Nevera which is made by Rimac in Croatia.
“It is the fastest production car ever made and goes 0-60mph in 1.74 seconds.”
But his daily drive is a black Range Rover Sport. He says given a choice between train or car travel he would always choose cars.
